Competency Description

Working with faculty and subject matter experts (SME) is the primary responsibility of an instructional designer. They will bring their expertise to the table and so will you! At the beginning of a course development, the instructor or SME may not fully. It will be up to you to investigate and identify support needs that the faculty or SME may need throughout the design process. In this competency, you will explore strategies for communicating and mentoring faculty, as well as evaluating just-in-time (JIT) training and mentoring while working on a project.

This course is also available in the Design Project Leadership Track.

You will have six months to complete this competency and can review the materials at any time during this period. If you wish to access these resources after the six months, you will need to re-enroll.

Competency Outcomes

Upon completion of this competency you will be able to:

  • Identify appropriate strategies for facilitating design for online faculty members.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of just-in-time (JIT) training for a given course design and development.
  • Evaluate communication strategies designed for a course development.
