Track Descriptions

The Educational Technology & Accessibility track concentrates on specific core competencies for instructional technologists in the educational technology and accessibility space. It covers the Google Suite nuts and bolts and necessary skills, as well as emerging technologies, all things video editing, captioning, best practices, and a deep dive into accessibility standards for all types of content. All four competencies must be completed to earn the Educational Technology and Accessibility certificate.

The Project Management Soft Skills track covers that Instructional technologists need not only the “hard skills” of navigating technologies and troubleshooting, but they also require the “soft skills” of working with teams and managing projects. This certificate track covers the use of technology to collaborate and coach others in learning technologies, ensuring quality standards, and risk mitigation. Strong communication skills are also included. All four of these competencies must be completed to earn the Project Management Soft Skills certificate.

The Instructional Technologist Learning Theories and Design Models track covers instructional design basics and building the foundation of what it means to be an instructional technologist to be successful in this role. The two competencies combined include topics such as common learning theories, learning strategies, cognitive load, ID models, backward design, and universal design for learning (UDL). Completing these two competencies, you can earn the Learning Theories and Design Models certificate.

User Experience (UX) design is at the core of what instructional technologists do on the daily. This track focuses on a variety of Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle. It goes into the nuts and bolts of the LMS. Further, the visual design competency provides support on how to enhance the learner experience to include visual graphics, course navigation, and iconography.

You will have six months to complete the competencies in each of these tracks and can review the materials at any time during this period. If you wish to access these resources after the six months, you will need to re-enroll.
